So far, this has turned out to be the vacation from hell. I started travelling on Dec 17th from Detroit, MI in the USA. But our flight from Philly to Heathrow was cancelled. So they tried to put us on another airline, we got removed, then rebooked to Chicago/Heathrow. The short version is over the course of the next five days, we were stranded all over the place. Detroit - Chicago. Chicago - Heathrow: Cancelled Chicago - Heathrow evening: Emergency landing in NY due to sick passenger... sent back to Chicago. Chicago - France: Emergency landing in Dublin, but finally got to France. France - Gatwick: Cancelled France - Amsterdam Amsterdam - Gatwick: Cancelled Amsterdam - London City: FINALLY!! But coming from Amsterdam to the UK, they lost our luggage. As of today (7 days later), we're STILL waiting to get it back. So we've had a couple of days in London, 2 out in Cardiff (love the St. David's Hotel!). And then we got to Glasgow with no problems. By now I'm excited that I'll finally get to see Panto! Picked up the tickets at the SECC Box Office on the 28th, waited until 1pm for the doors to open, and then they told us the news... Due to a water main break nearby in town, the matinee performance is cancelled. Health and safetyn won't let the show go on because the Clyde has no water at the moment. :( So back over to the SECC and they rebooked me for the evening show, which hopefully would run as planned if the break gets fixed! A few hours later they updated their website with the news: All Panto performances are cancelled for today. So they rebooked me for the matinee on the 30th. I went to the matinee today (the 30th) and still no John. A lot of people were very upset because the auditorium didn't tell anyone that Greg was filling in again until everyone was seated and ready to start (there were a lot of people wanting refunds and some even got up and left). I felt really bad for the kid because as soon as it was announced that John was still ill and not perforing, people started booing. And when they said "another Barrowman" would be performing instead, the booing continued. It was completely rude and uncalled for because it's not like John wants to be sick and miss performances. And it certainly wasn't helping Greg right before he was supposed to begin. Anyways though, it was still a pretty good show. I'd never heard of the Krankies before this and they were pretty funny, especially the Ozzy, Sue Boyle, and Lady Ga Ga bits. The 3D special effects were fun and a lot of the little kids got a kick out of trying to grab the things flying out at them. Greg did a good job, but there were parts when it was obvious they'd had to change the script because John wasn't there. He is a talented young man though and I give him a lot of credit for going out there and giving it his all. I felt so bad for the two little boys sitting next to me with their parents. They're huge Captain Jack fans and were just crushed that their hero couldn't be there. The youngest wanted to leave during the matinee because he didn't like the bright lights and because "There's no Captain Jack!" When he and his older brother noticed my coat though (Yes, I was wearing my greatcoat lol), he asked if I was a Time Agent too and if he could hug me because I talk funny like Jack does (go American accent? LOL) and have the same coat. His mom was really happy that I played along and we managed to cheer him up and convince him to stay for the rest of the show. Thanks to the absolutely amazing generosity of a fellow list member, she's given me her tickets for tomorrow's matinee since she couldn't come from her country to the show. So I've got one last shot at seeing JB (if he's feeling better and performing) before we fly home. If not, then at least I gave it my all and I hope he gets well soon.
